PETRONAS AWARDS EDUCATION SPONSORSHIP TO 10 SOUTH SUDANESE STUDENTS

JUBA, 21 December 2019 – PETRONAS’ subsidiary, PETRONAS Carigali Nile Limited (PCNL) awarded sponsorships to 10 South Sudanese students under the PETRONAS International Education Sponsorship Programme (IESP) at an award presentation ceremony at the PETRONAS Complex, Juba, today.
The 10 recipients will pursue their tertiary education in various disciplines at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Undersecretary of Ministry of Petroleum Republic of South Sudan, Honourable Mayen Wol Jong along with Honourable Ambassador Caesar Oliha Marko, Chairperson of National Petroleum and Gas Commission and PETRONAS South Sudan Operations Country Chairman, Anuar Ismail, who presented the scholarship awards to the recipients.

“PETRONAS believes that education is the foundation for creating a sustainable future and investing in talent is one of the most meaningful ways of empowering communities. With the IESP, PETRONAS’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts towards education, we are able to create opportunities for deserving students in South Sudan to attain quality education,” said Anuar.

“I would also like to express my appreciation to the government of the Republic of South Sudan for their continuous support towards PETRONAS. The IESP will not only help achieve South Sudan’s aspiration in accelerating the country’s capability development but also witness a growing pool of South Sudanese oil and gas professionals,” he added.

Since 2000, PETRONAS has sponsored 90 students including the 10 award recipients. To date, 57 students have graduated while 23 are still studying in at UTP.
PETRONAS in South Sudan also carries out the Water for Life projects, which benefitted more than 40,000 people in Juba and a blood donation drive.
