Malaysia’s Energy Company Remains Committed to Enriching Lives in South Sudan
Juba, South Sudan, 20 November 2021 – PETRONAS Carigali Nile Ltd (PCNL) has organised a three-day COVID-19 Prevention Programme to promote awareness among school children about the pandemic and support the efforts to curb its spread.
The programme, which started from 17 November, was held at the Nyakuron West Diplomatic Nursery and Primary School, Jebel Dinka Community School and Juba Orphanage Home here in conjunction with World Children’s Day 2021. Key highlights of the programme included a sharing session on COVID-19 prevention practices by the Medical Response for Diplomatic Corps International (MRDC), distribution of personal hygiene kits comprising face masks, soaps and hand sanitisers, as well as the construction of handwashing facilities at respective locations.
During the sharing sessions, multilingual doctors from MRDC spoke about the importance of proper sanitation and COVID-19 prevention practices to the children, teachers and social workers. In addition, participants also learnt about COVID-19 symptoms, how the virus spreads and how to prevent infection.
Present during the respective sessions were Deputy Chairperson of Nyakuron West Quarter Council, Stephen Elias, Director of Juba Orphanage Home, Angelo Kenyi, and PETRONAS South Sudan Country Chairman, Peter Majid.
Peter said, “In conjunction with World Children’s Day 2021, we hope that the COVID-19 Prevention Programme, together with our other initiatives such as installing water wells to provide clean water supply, will help support the Government’s efforts to fight the spread of COVID-19 in South Sudan and keep communities, especially children, safe. We are embarking on this programme to further enrich our Water for Life project in Juba.
“The programme is part of PETRONAS’ continued commitment to create positive social impact for the communities where we operate, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals,” he added.
Angelo Kenyi and Stephen Elias on behalf of the Juba orphanage and Nyakuron West Community expressed their appreciation to PETRONAS for its continued efforts to enrich the lives of the communities in Republic of South Sudan.
